From Sketch to Painting

Sketches in The Creative Process Also Led to Customizable Art

OPUS Process
Over the years, whether on a 14-hour flight to China or some quiet time at an art show, I have sketched constantly.
Finding all these sketches and combining some of my black and white drawings, technology has enabled me to experiment with and understand how different colours can affect a viewer’s "feel" of a painting.

We know that artists have changed the colours of a work by using different techniques and media such as silk-screen, etching, Lino cuts, wood block & more.

My interest differed. I wanted to know and understand how different colours affect a viewer's response to the same work. No artist in their right mind would repaint the same canvas over and over in different colours.
So, a computer monitor became a canvas and apps became my brush, paints, pastels, inks and pencils. This then led to my OPUS Series.

  1. To provide the Design & Architectural community & Home Owners with quality art to satisfy their decorative goals.

  2. To prove to art galleries & open art exhibition coordinators, that my work process leads to "Art Made By My Own Eyes, Mind & Hands".

My mission:

1. The Interior Design & Architectural Community:

For over 40 years, I have worked closely with Designers and Architects. I understand their need to find the right artwork to complement their designs and ensure it has the correct feel and look.  I also understand how frustrating it can be trying to ensure that all the elements come together.  Their time is invaluable, and my creative process will provide them with the perfect, highly personalized artwork to enhance any interior. The same applies to individual looking for art to fit with any private home or office.

Select a work from the Opus Series. If you love you keep it as is or I will adjust it to better fit your project’s finishes by personalizing its colour and size, as if I m being commissioned.  I can work with you and/or your designers in-person or remotely.  It’s that simple.

2. My Process: To prove that I Do Create With My Own "Eyes, Hands & Mind"  as Do all artists.

  1. I select one of the many sketches I have made over the years.

  2. Then enhance the sketch & then scan it.

  3. Using various apps, I am able to select the areas of the sketch that I want in a colour of my choice.

  4. Then mix my colours, tint or darken them until I'm satisfied; as if I was mixing acrylic or oil paints.

  5. When completed, I will enhance where necessary.  My computer's screen is my canvas and its curser is my brush.

  6. This work is then printed, enhanced by my hand and signed by me.

  7. This now becomes the "ORIGINAL WORK" of which there is only ONE.

  8.  Should the advent of AI be of concern to the Art World?

After reading a recent "MIT Technology Review" June 18th 2024 article "Why Artists are becoming less scared of AI" by Melissa Heikkila who attended a conference in Hamburg Germany that debated this subject.
"...right now, we are in a moment where we are deciding how much creative power we are comfortable giving AI companies and tools..........at one of the largest events for creatives in Europe, and the message I got from those I spoke to was that AI is too glitchy and unreliable to fully replace humans and is best used instead as a tool to augment human creativity".

Finding all these sketches and using technology, has enabled me to experiment and understand how different colours can affect a viewers "feel" of a painting.

Producing these works digitally enables them to be customized in colour and size -

Just like being commissioned

For OPUS 89 below, I have manipulated the original sketch to convey the meaning of my quote.
